We can’t become what we want to be by remaining what we are.”

Modern Therapy for Men: Drop the Mask, Get the Tools, and Take Control.

Introduction & What to Expect

Hi, I’m John Frederickson, a Registered Therapeutic Counsellor (RTC) based in Langley, BC. I help men navigate the heavy pressures, quiet stresses, and major turning points of modern life.

Whether you are grinding through a massive life transition, dealing with the daily weight of anxiety and depression, or trying to fix a breakdown in your relationship, I’m here to help. I provide a space where you can drop the mask, figure out exactly what is keeping you stuck, and build a practical roadmap to get back on track.

Therapy doesn't have to feel stuffy, clinical, or formal. Think of our sessions as a collaborative, direct conversation focused entirely on getting you results.

Here is exactly how our work together will help you:

Real-World Tools: You will get practical, actionable strategies to settle a racing mind, break out of depressive slumps, and handle high-stress situations.

Casual Environment: No clinical jargon or judgment here. We just have honest, straight-talking conversations where you can unpack things safely.

Smooth Transitions: You will gain the mental frameworks to navigate career shifts, relationship changes, or new family dynamics without feeling overwhelmed.

Better Relationships: You will learn how to communicate your needs clearly, defuse arguments, and build solid, lasting connections with the people who matter

Flexible Sessions: We can connect however it fits your schedule—either in-person at my Langley office or online from the comfort of your own space.

My Story: Why I Do This Work

I didn’t become a counsellor just by reading textbooks—I’ve been where you are.

Decades of Real-World Perspective
Born in 1964, I bring decades of real-world life experience, maturity, and perspective to our sessions. I understand the unique pressures men face as they navigate mid-life, changing family roles, and aging.

When Everything Fell Apart
Years ago, my marriage ended, and my seemingly stable life completely fell apart. I felt like a robot, just going through the motions, uncomfortable in my own skin, and living without joy. For a long time, my strategy for dealing with depression was to run from it, put on a brave face, and pretend everything was fine.

Choosing to Stop Running
Eventually, I decided enough was enough. I stopped running, turned around, and chose to actively face my past. That deep dive into my own personal development—including intensive training through Clearmind International—completely transformed my life.

Sitting in the Client's Chair First
My training gave me the rare opportunity to sit in the client’s chair first. Because I have personally done the hard work and used these exact tools, I know exactly what the process feels like from your side of the couch.

The View From the Other Side
Today, I have rebuilt my life from the ground up. I have a strong social network, great relationships with my kids, my ex-wife, and a deep sense of control over where I am headed. The hard road I traveled didn't break me; it carved out a massive capacity for compassion, insight, and joy.

I’m a down-to-earth guy with a great sense of humour, and lots of lived experience. Compass Therapy helps you find your way. You don’t have to figure it out alone.
